The Evolution of WiFi: How WiFi 6E is Revolutionizing Wireless Connectivity

Not long before WiFi 5 was out, the world had already started talking about the possibility of opening up a new band of WiFi 6 in order to increase speed and fluidity of streaming and improve the overall wireless experience.

After WiFi 6 which unfortunately only operated on 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands, there was an urgent need and increased demand by the tech world for an upgraded quality for wireless connectivity, the WiFi 6E provided that, and we will explain in this following article its advantages and the current position of the world in its regard.

What is WiFi 6E ?

To be simply put, the WiFi 6E is an Extension to WiFi 6, thus the “E” added to the tech’s name stands for Extended. As the WiFi 6 only operates in the bands 2.4 Ghz and 5Ghz, the 6E operates mainly in the 6 Ghz bands.

WiFi 6E improves substantially both the performance and efficiency of wireless devices by allowing the access to a new band, which leads to a faster and more stable and reliable connections in case the area is too crowded or too many devices congested in a single closed space.

WiFi 6E operates in the 6 GHz frequency band, specifically in the range from 5.925 GHz to 7.125 GHz, the band is divided into multiple channels providing a broader spectrum for wireless communications.

Why opt for WiFi 6E?

Wifi 6E offers several advantages compared to prior wireless standards like WiFi 5 or WiFi 4, we list below a few :

Increased bandwidth

Thanks to its 6Ghz band, the WiFi 6E provides larger spectrum which by result offers more channels and provides increased bandwidth, this allows faster connections and greatly improves the overall network performance.

b/Less interference

Since the 6Ghz band is less congested than the 2.4Ghz and the 5Ghz, it comes with the benefit of having much less interference between devices especially in a crowded area with multiple connected equipment.

c/ Improved performance in crowded areas

In case for example of Stadiums, theaters or even airports, which would contain many people with electronic devices, the quality of connection can be maintained thanks to the additional channels in the WiFi 6E, that allows simultaneous connections.

d/ Lower latency

Nowadays, who doesn’t like lower latency? From games to a wide number of cases, lower latency is always desirable, WiFi 6E incorporates the technologies TWT (Target Wake Time) and BSS (Basic Service Set) and both help a great deal with lowering latency.

e/ improved security

WiFi 6E respects the latest security protocols, like WPA3, which provides premium security for its users.

f/ Speed

Finally yet importantly in our short list of the many more advantages of WiFi 6E, is of course: Speed. People become more and more impatient and relentless, so the faster, the better. The expanded bandwidth allows faster data transfers, quicker downloads, smoother streaming, and significantly improved wireless experience.

To Sum up, WiFi 6E offers multiple advantages, that gave it an edge over earlier versions of WiFi, and it meets the growing needs of society in terms of speed, quality, efficiency, security...Etc.

The position of the world

WiFi 6E has mainly two bands: the 5645-6425Mhz and the 6425-7125 MHz.

There is an increasing adoption by countries for the band 5645-6425Mhz, we note from Europe, the European Union, noting France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, Belgium, Spain and Switzerland.

Big countries, like Australia, the US, the UK and Canada have also adopted this band, from Asia, we note Hong Kong, Turkey,  Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Bahrain, Jordan, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and UAE have also adopted the first band.

From Africa, still approaching shyly, countries like Morocco, Togo, Mauritius, Kenya and Egypt have already adopted the band 5645-6425Mhz, whilst countries like Tunisia are still considering it.

Not to forget, countries like Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Dominican Republic also adopted it.

On the other hand, several countries have expressed intent to adopt the upper band 6425-7125 Mhz, and are currently considering it, among others, we mention mainly Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Portugal, Qatar, The Netherlands, Spain and UK.

Below is a summary table of the countries under our scope, showing which countries have already adopted the band and which have expressed intent and are still considering.
